Ash Hussain |
Hi! I'm Ash! While I am not the biggest film buff, movies are something I have linked to the best memories. Some of my favorite memories have heavy associations with the movie or show that was playing. From the first movie I ever cried over, "Home," to cozy nights in with my loved ones watching old Disney movies. I have always enjoyed these little moments and the people I have spent them with.
I live up to the teenage girl stereotype. I enjoy the rom-com, coming-of-age movies more than I'd like to admit. During the summer, I will binge crappy rom-coms all day while crocheting in my room. These genres make me feel lighter, happier. Another genre I have always enjoyed is musicals. I love the energy and how songs relate to the plot in the film. The display of emotion plot progression through strategic song use has always been appealing to me. I also enjoy animated films. As an art lover, the vibrant colors and different styles that animation allows for will always be enjoyable to me.

| Hayao Miyazaki and His Characters |
Hayao Miyazaki is my all-time favorite director (also the only director I can actively name 5 movies of). His whimsical style, attention to detail, fluid motion, and childish characters make me want to enter the Studio Ghibli world. Even though his films seem childish, strong themes and messages are conveyed in such a way that sticks out to the viewer. For example, in "Spirited Away," the parents' greed turned them into pigs. This helps show how humans will naturally be greedy and lose their sense of self in the process. To the untrained viewer this process will just look like a funny scene.
From this experience, I hope to gather more inside knowledge of what being a director is like. While it is easy to criticize directors and suggest ways to improve their movies, it is essential to acknowledge the hard work they put into them. Hours going over tiny details that went unnoticed, making critical decisions in a timely manner, meeting deadlines and due dates. All play a role in what makes filmmaking film making. I want to be able to experience them and see how I act in such situations. From this journey, I want to build my portfolio by creating a style that represents me and things I want to see more of in media.
