Film Opening Storyboard

WALL-E storyboard example

Using the screenplay we have just created, we drew out storyboards. For this assignment we broke down our introduction into images that helps show what we visualized our film opening to be. On this piece of paper we broke down our opening into how ever many frames we wanted but had to include a sketch, a description, camera angles, audio notes, transitions, and graphics/text. This allowed others to get a better idea of our own ideas. We had the choice to use technology to create our storyboards or hand draw it.

I decided to hand draw my ideas to get better control over what I produced. While I am no artist, my storyboards represent my thoughts on my film opening accurately. The first two frames are used to help set the mood and setting of the film, the natural setting creates a whimsical tone and the sounds help lure the audience into a sense of calm. This gets interrupted by the topic of conversation with Izzy and Sara along with Izzy's dramatic movements in frames 3 and 4, using different angles to help create a contrast to calm and dramatic. Frames 4-6 help show movements and shift in dynamic, showing off different characteristics of each character with how they move and interact with the space around them. Frame 7 characterizes Ash. Frames 8-11 show different emotions on each characters faces that lures the audience into the movie and makes them wonder why each character felt that way to Izzy's question and Ash's answer. The final scene is summarized in one frame as it showcases jump cutted clips that demonstrate scenario, tone, and characterization by showing off the setting, props; such as flowers and the journal, and the arms, eyes, and outfits of each character.
