For this assignment we were asked to create an audience survey. Using Google Forms or Microsoft Forms, we had to ask specific questiosn to aid in the creation of our film. This was a type of field research to see what a sample of the general population would be interested to see in a movie of our genre. I asked 10 questions some related to demographics, others related to movie plots, and tropes.
The Process
To create this survey I used Microsoft Forms. The first two questions I asked were basic demographic questions to help understand who my film would be appealing to. I felt keeping it simple by asking gender and age would be best, and then moved on to movie specific questions. I wanted to make sure the data I used was from people who enjoyed romance films because why tailor a film to someone who won't enjoy it. I wanted to know what types of romantic films they liked, so I asked what romance films they have seen before, what tropes they enjoyed, and what sub-genres they enjoy. I then asked plot specific questions such as character development, aesthetic, character relatablity, and conclusions for films.
Once the film was created I started networking. I sent it to group chats, posted it on instagram, asked friends and family to share it around, anything I could do to get responses by many different people as quick as possible. I ended up only having 50 responses, with primarily a younger audience ranging from 14-18 years old.
